Douala Varsity Draws Balance Sheet

The rector announced the advent of three major projects that will greatly change the life of the institution.

This was during the board meeting of the University which took place on July 11.

The board of directors of the University of Douala met for the second time in the year on Thursday July 11 to examine the accounts of the institution as well as draw a balance sheet of activities carried out is relation to the set objectives. Speaking during the meeting, the Rector of the University of Douala, announced three major projects to be carried out within the university in the coming academic year. The first has to do with the exploitation of ideas germinated at the university by companies. The second which is very much linked to the first has to do with setting up centre of production studies which will be hosted in the department of technologies. The third has to do with a giant infrastructural and pedagogic project to boost professional training which will cost some 160 million, (about 128 billion) to be financed by a great foundation. The principle of accord has been agreed upon thanks to the initiative of the ministry of higher Education and the implementation will take place within the shortest delay, he said. Presenting the balance sheet of activities during the past academic year, the rector said the University of the Douala is the first in the country and in the sub region to have introduced the digital technology in pedagogy. Henceforth he said students can follow lectures without necessarily being in the amphi theatre which are overcrowded by the year.  Still concerning pedagogy, some 107 doctorate thesis were presented last year in the institution. As concerns cooperation and research, he said the university within the framework of professionalising studies to match the demand of the labour market, signed a memorandum of understanding with the Douala shipyard authority. The university also received visitors from other universities from Gabon, Paris, Ottawa, all interested in establishing cooperation ties with them. Douala University also hosted a seminar of quality training organised by the association of African universities. On the sporting side the University of Douala came first during the last university games and first in a judo international championship in Yaounde. The university through UIT, also won the first prize on good management worth 150 million offered by MINESUP. The university has equally been chosen to host the festival of arts and culture regrouping all universities in the country. To better life on campus, a clean-up day campaign is carried out every Thursday. It is worthy to note that deliberations during the board meeting was launched by the board chair, Theophile Ngando Mpondo who reminded members on the new law limiting members and their advantages as well as the introduction of a new representative for the ministry of Finance at the board.
