10 Vigilante Groups Get FCFA 1m Gov’t Support

The money from the Head of State was handed to the vigilante groups in a public ceremony chaired by the SDO for Meme

Some 10 vigilante groups in Meme Division have benefited from financial assistance from the Head of State, President Paul Biya worth one million francs, with each group receiving FCFA 100,000 while two best selected groups out of the ten also received an additional gift of a motorbike each to ease their activities.

Handing over the envelops and the two motorbikes, the Meme Senior Divisional Officer, Chamberlin Ntou’ouNdong, told the members of the vigilante groups who came from Kumba I, II, III, Konye and Mbonge Sub-Divisions that the assistance of the Head of State was to support them for what they have been doing, in their various Sub-Divisions.

The SDO said the Head of State is by so doing encouraging them to continue in assisting the security forces in the fight against criminality in the Division. The Meme boss on behalf of the Head of State, extended his appreciation to the ten groups and called on them to do more because the administration is behind them. He said just from what they have been doing so far, people are able to move freely in some areas of the city.

Ntou’ouNdong urged them to equally advise their friends to come out from the bushes and enjoy the gifts from the Head of State. The ten vigilante groups are from the five Sub-Divisions that make up Meme Division;Kumba I (Bonakama and Makata II groups), Kumba II (Ekemba I and II quarters), Kumba III (Barombi Kang and Mambanda quarters), Konye (Kurume and MbakwaSupe) and Mbonge (Nbwandi and New Layout quarters).

It should be noted that out of these groups,Bonakama in Kumba I Sub-Division received the first prize of a motorbike, while MbakwaSupe from Konye Sub-Division had the second with another motorbike.

All these, according to the SDO, was a sign of encouragement from the President of the Republic H.E. Paul Biya to fight against criminality and to bring peace in the Division.  “More is still in the pipeline if job well done,” the SDO assured.

Receiving the gifts, the various presidents of the vigilante groups lauded the initiative of the Head of State and promised to work relentlessly and devotedly for the protection of the people and their property. They said what they have received, will go a long way to assist them carry out their functions without any constraint.
