The plan was unveiled on Tuesday June 22, during the 25th ordinary board session of the Standards and Quality Control Agency, ANOR
The proliferation of contraband goods in some sectors, which before now had been given little attention has caught the interest of the Standards and Quality Control Agency, ANOR. Recently, substandard wines, bathing soaps and oils, and even fuel have been confiscated in some parts of the country. To bar the way to the upsurge of such activity, ANOR says it will activate a plan to expand quality control to all sectors of the economy. The board chair of the agency, Mohamadou Bayero Fadil, made the announcement, on Tuesday June 21, while presiding over the 25th board meeting of the institution. “I also hope this session will be an opportunity for us to delve into the issues facing our agency,” he said. MohamadouBayeroFadil cited a presidential decree which gives them the authority to step in, and control all facets of the economy. “Here, I am making allusion to the decree which reorganises ANOR and gives it more powers to effect systematic controls on products and services in our markets. This is in a bid to protect the local industries who are faced with the issue of contraband,” the board chair stated. The session also saw the approval of the 2020 accounts as well as the annual report.
In March this year, ANOR announced a reprisal measure informing economic actors in the nation’s economic capital, Douala, to expect surprised control missions in the days ahead.
This new traction is coming after an announcement by the Trade Minister, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana that producers of fake products must be tracked down. He made the declaration when a reasonable quantity of fake wine was confiscated in some bars and snacks in Yaounde.
