Jérôme Mvondo who led the Cameroon News and Publishing Corporation from 1999-20002 was laid to rest in his native Nkondougou V, Bikok subdivision, Mefou and Akono division of the centre region Saturday, February 4, 2023
The immediate past General Manager of the Cameroon News and Publishing Corporation, SOPECAM, Jérôme Mvondo who passed on last December 15, has been elevated to the rank of Grand Cordon of Cameroonian Order of Merit.
The Senior Divisional Officer of Mefou-et-Akono, Antoinette Zongo, conferred the medal on his casket prior to his burial in his native Nkondougou V village, located in Bikok, Mefou-et-Akono.
In his homily, the Parish Priest, Joseph Akonga Essomba dedicated the soul of the deceased to the Most High while inviting mourners to seek to live faithfully “without shame or fear”.
“It is necessary to convert as soon as possible and not always wait for the last day,” he said.
Mr Mvondo served as SOPECAM GM from 1999-2002. He is credited with overseeing some milestone moments at the national bilingual daily Cameroon Tribune newspaper, notably the increase in the number of pages to 32, and the introduction of four-colour printing format in January 2001.
After SOPECAM, he had served as General Manager of the Cocoa Development Corporation, from 2006 to 2018. Born in 1947 in Bikok, Mefou and Akono Division of the Centre region, Jérôme Mvondo is survived by a widow, and several children.
Jérôme Sylvain Mvondo, the lone surviving brother of the deceased still vividly remembers his later brother as someone who was “easy-going, a unifier”.
“He loved perfection. Very meticulous, clean, so much so that he reminded us of a cat,” he says.
