Mrs Chantal Biya's charitable outfit, the Circle of Friends of Cameroon handed over food and other relief items to four orphanages in the nation's capital on May 12
Four orphanages sheltering close to 200 vulnerable children in Yaounde have received tons of food items, cleaning chemicals, maintenance tools and a variety of appliances and household equipment from the First Lady of Cameroon, Mrs Chantal Biya. The gifts which include cartons of oil, sugar, milk, bags of rice, beans, cleaning chemicals and equipment like washing machines, refrigerators, waterproof mattresses and beds were donated on May 12 by members of the diplomatic wing of Mrs Biya's charitable NGO, the Circle of Friends of Cameroon, CERAC.
Handing over the gesture on behalf of Mrs Biya was the deputy general coordinator of CERAC in charge of the Diplomatic Wing or the organisation, Mrs Marguerite Mbella Mbella who assured the recipients: “You are not alone, we believe in you and we love you much."
"We will always be there to support and motivate you on your way to success.”
She also acknowledged that despite their vulnerability, the orphans were full of dreams. "They need our comfort, our help and above all, our love. They need us to give them confidence and hope in the future,” said Mrs Mbella Mbella.
The spokesperson of the beneficiaries, Michelle Ngamkinda said welcomed the gifts as coming at an opportune moment.
“Thank you mothers. Only God is capable of compensating you for such a gesture which will help them realise their dreams,” said Ngamkinda.
CERAC was founded in 1995 by Cameroon's First Lady and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador as a not-for-profit non-governmental organisation to take an active part in the development of Cameroon by delivering much-needed assistance to the most vulnerable groups. This public-interest association comprises a diplomatic component which brings together the wives of Ambassadors and High Commissioners accredited to Cameroon on the one hand; and a national component comprising members of government and persons ranking as such, officials of public and semi-public companies, wives of members of government, elected officers, etc, on the other.
Since inception, CERAC has been working throughout the country, paying visits to patients, building schools to ensure the education of young Cameroonians, making donations to various hospitals, schools, orphanages, inter alia.
CERAC also works against natural disasters, and all forms of hardship and against HIV-AIDS.
