ELECAM Enrols Over 225,000 New Potential Voters

This information was revealed by the election agency’s Board chair during a Board meeting on June 20

The President of the Electoral Board of the elections management body, ELECAM, Dr Abrams Enow Egbe, has praised the growing enthusiasm shown in the annual voter registration exercise, with more than 225,000 new potential voters enlisted since the process started in January. Enow Egbe made the observation during the second ordinary session of the Board which took place in Yaounde Tuesday June 20. Despite a slow start to the exercise, partly due to activities related to the Senate election in March, the ELECAM Board noted with satisfaction the increase in the number of new registrants thanks to multi-stakeholder efforts. Enow Egbe made a fervent appeal to all the concerned parties to keep the steam in order that many more Cameroonians of voting age can enrol their names before the register closes on August 31. During the meeting, Board members also examined the institution’s draft budget for 2024 as well as its special allocation for the same fiscal year. The draft documents were approved. Reports of activities undertaken by some Board members were also presented. In the meantime, the meeting was an opportunity for the ELECAM board to pay homage to the founding chairman of the Social Democratic Front (SDF) party, John Fru Ndi who died on June 12 in Yaounde. Fru Ndi is remembered for his immense contribution to Cameroon’s electoral democracy, including his crusade for the creation of ELECAM.
