This is in line with the strategic orientations of the Ports Authority of Kribi (PAK) to get closer to its customers in the Littoral, West and South West
The Port Authority of Kribi (PAK), the public company that manages the deep seaport of Kribi in the South Region of Cameroon, recently opened a representation in the Littoral regional capital Douala.
The PAK representation is housed by the National Social Insurance Fund (NSIF) in the administrative headquarters Bonanjo.
"The objective of our presence in Douala is to strengthen our cooperation with the Port Authority of Douala; to work in close collaboration with a view to developing port activities and offering quality and complementary services to customers; to pool our efforts to find common opportunities for the two ports; and to synergistically strengthen competitiveness and port services for the benefit of our national maritime coastline," the General Manager of the Port Authority of Kribi, Patrice Melon, said in the press kit prepared for this purpose.
He underlines in the same document that the opening of the Douala representation "is fully in line with the strategic orientations of the PAK to get closer to its customers in the Littoral, West and South West."
In addition to establishing a certain proximity with its current customers, the new representation of the PAK is resolutely going to conquer new market shares in the economic capital and beyond. The profile of the executive appointed to lead the new representation of the PAK is vital in accomplishing this goal.
"Mohammed Iya Habib has been appointed head of the PAK representation in Douala. (…) Before this appointment, Habib Iya had previously served as head of the Marketing and Commercial Department of the PAK. His experience in the field and his knowledge of the port and logistics environment will allow the new representation to be quickly operational," General Manager of the Port Authority of Kribi underlines.
Operational since March 2018 in the seaside town of southern Cameroon, the deep seaport of Kribi, with an area that allows for the reception of large boats, is presented as the most important port infrastructure in the Gulf of Guinea. But, despite these advantages, the river port of Douala remains the main gateway to Cameroon with more than 80 percent of import-export activity, according to official data.
Moreover, although still limited by its isolation with, in particular, a road in poor condition between Kribi and Edea, the seaport of Kribi claims an average annual increase of its two terminals of 35 percent (container terminal) and 86 percent (multipurpose terminal) in five years. These figures were revealed during the interministerial mission held at the PAK from May 29 to 30, 2023.
