Far North Gets Maiden Medical Imaging Centre

The equipment alongside other state-of-the-art medical kits were handed over to the Mokolo Regional Hospital Annex in the Far North region on July 10 by Public Health Minister, Malachie Manaouda

Until now patients seeking to do CT scan and imaging tests in the Far North region of Cameroon were often obliged to travel outside the region, sometimes to far away Yaounde in the Centre region.

But now, these services have been brought closer to them – specifications at the Mokolo Regional Hospital Annex in the Mayo-Tsanaga Division of the Far North region. The Minister of Public Health, Dr Malachie Manaouda unveiled the new medical imaging centre and other cutting-edge medical and biomedical equipment during a working visit on July 10. "The concept of humanisation of health care must be a reality. Be at your workstation and available to work," Dr Manaouda told staff of the health structure.

Medical imaging, also known as radiology, is the field of medicine in which medical professionals recreate various images of parts of the body for diagnostic or treatment purposes. Medical imaging procedures include non-invasive tests that allow doctors to diagnose injuries and diseases without being intrusive. Medical imaging is a central part of the improved outcomes of modern medicine. Different types of medical imaging procedures include: X-rays, Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), Ultrasounds, Endoscopy, Tactile imaging Computerized tomography (CT scan).

Other medical supplies handed over by the Minister include: hospital beds, incubators, as well as an ultra-modern medical device capable of treating different types of cancers and other viruses.

Before leaving Mokolo, the Minister announced the launch next month of a free health campaign in Mayo-Tsanaga.

The inauguration of a medical imaging center in Mokolo comes barely two weeks after the Minister performed the same exercise in Buea, South West region.
