CEMAC Officials Resolve To Enhance Performance

During a meeting in Douala, they also talked about ways of contributing to sustainable peace and development among the member states of the economic and political bloc

The President of the Commission of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC), Baltasar Engonga Edjo, has called on heads of institutions, agencies and specialised bodies of the sub regional bloc to work with dedication in order to speed up the socio-economic development of member states.

Engonga Edjo made the fervent appeal Monday July 17 as he presided at a meeting of CEMAC officials in the economic capital Douala. Addressing his collaborators, the CEMAC Commission boss urged them to demonstrate a sense of assiduity and professionalism in the discharge of their functions.

This, he said, is not only important for advancing the socio-economic development of the area, but also to fast-track sub regional integration which is a matter of priority for the six member countries of the bloc.

Issues discussed during the meeting touched on the governance structure of CEMAC, its legal and institutional system, the role and mission of the Commission, respect for the rule of law in the application of community texts, the judicial control of CEMAC’s public funds, the role and responsibilities of specialised institutions of CEMAC and the functioning of CEMAC institutions offering professional training and their contributions to the sub region’s integration efforts.

The Douala meeting was part of activities of the Commission in elaborating its development plan through to 2025. It also served as a contact tour for the new CEMAC officials whose appointments were approved during the 15th ordinary summit of CEMAC Heads of State hosted by Cameroon on March 17.
