World Bank Funded Projects: Cameroon Hailed for Effective Management

A World Bank Group Administrator praised Cameroon for living up to the expectations of their partnership during two separate audiences to take stock and pave the way forward, granted them this week at MINEPAT

The Administrator of the World Bank Group, Jean-Claude Tchatchouang has expresses satisfaction with Cameroon’s management of World Bank funded projects. He made the appraisal on Monday July 19, 2019 at the end an audience with the Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Alamine Ousmane Mey.

While saluting Cameroon’s performance in the implementation of world bank projects, he said the few hitches found are normal in the implementation of projects of such magnitude.  “In general, we are very satisfied with the portfolio, though there are minor delays in disbursements here and there” he noted.  In the audience, the two men sought ways to ameliorate and reform the already good partnership.

As a result of the positive report card, the Administrator was glad to announce that they are willing to continue funding projects in Cameroon. “Our partnership with Cameroon is long term, it will continue and get deeper and we will even give some more resources to Cameroon in the course of this year,” he said.  The World Bank is funding 18 projects to the tune of FCFA 1300 Billion in Cameroon.

In a separate audience, the Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Alamine Ousmane Mey had talks with the Executive Secretary of the Niger Basin Authority, Abderahim Bireme Hamid. The Niger Basin Authority delegation came to present a comprehensive audit report at the behest of the Basin’s Council of Ministers.  According to Pascal De Campos, who led the study, the Authority is badly in need of the backing of member states to fulfil its mission in terms of needed finances, human resources and governance. The delegation however said Cameroon is a model member state, that has paid all its dues.

The Niger Basin Authority is an Intergovernmental organization in West Africa that exists to foster cooperation in managing and developing the resources in theriver Niger basin.

Reacting after receiving the two top guest, minister Alamine Ousmane Mey said the partnership with the World Bank will assure a strong and sustainable development in our nation. On the Niger Basin Authority cooperation, he said collaboration is the key thing that can assure effective energy management, food security and sustainable use of natural resources.
