Cameroon: Mauritius Prepares To Host Africa Athletics Championships

The assurances were given by the President of Mauritus, PrithvirajsingRoopun while receiving in audience the President of the Confederation of African Athletics, Hamad Kalkaba Malboum
Preparations are gearing up ahead of the 22 edition of the African Senior Athletics Championships which holds in Mauritius from June 8-12 at the Cote d’Or National Complex.
To that effect, the President of the Confederation of the African Athletics, CCA, Col. Hamad KalkabaMalboum was received in audience by the President of Mauritius, PrithvirajsingRoopun on Monday, January 17at the State House, in Réduit.
Speaking after the audience, the President of the CAA, stressed his visit to Mauritius, which ran from January 17-19, falls in line with preparations for the 22nd African Senior Athletics Championships.
Mr Kalkaba Malboum pointed out that he informed President Roopun of the Federation’s expectations to hold a memorable competition in Mauritius.
On his part, the Mauritius President assured that the country would organise a successful sporting event.
Mr Kalkaba Malboum wished success to Mauritius in its endeavours as regards the athletics competition as well as for other events. He expressed confidence that despite the COVID-19 pandemic which limits both the participation of athletes and means of the countries that decide to organise these events, the Republic of Mauritius will live up to its commitment to do so.
“After the assurances given by the President of Mauritius, we are going back to the headquarters happy with this support for the African youth’, he added.
Speaking of Mauritius as a country that has been a host not only to several continental athletics competitions, but also other sports competitions, the president of the AAC emphasised that Mauritius is a great boxing, badminton and athletics nation comprising of great athletes such as Eric Milazar and Stephan Buckland, among others.
As concerns preparations for the African Athletics Championships, Mauritius’ Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Mr Jean Christophe Stephan Toussaint,
Minister Toussaint indicated that preparation works have already been initiated with the Local OrganisingCommittee and all the team members.
During the three-day visit which rounded off yesterday, the President of the CAA, Col Hamad KalkabaMalboumheld discussions with various local authorities on the organization of the event.
A contract was signed, for accommodation and catering facilities with regards to the African Senior Athletics Championships while the logo of the event unveiled followed by a meeting with the management personnel of the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) so as ensure a good television coverage not only on national level but also on international level.
