André signed with Premier League side, Manchester United while Jean moved to Besiktas in Turkey
He was officially presented to fans last Thursday after passing medical exams the previous day. Cameroonian goalkeeper, André Onana signed a five year contract with Manchester United worth 57 million Euros (about FCFA 37.3 billion)
The 27-year-old goalkeeper signs from Série A side, Inter Milan with whom he played the final of the Champions League against Manchester City last June 10, 2023. André Onana had a brilliant season with Inter winning the SuperCoppa Italia and Coppa Italia last season but was kept a record eight clean sheets European interclub competition.
André Onana inherits the first choice position from Spaniard, David De Gea, who has spent 12 seasons with the Red Devils.
John Murtough, Manchester United’s football director, said “Andre was our top choice to become the new goalkeeper for Manchester United, with exactly the right profile of technical attributes and personality. Having achieved success throughout his career, we know that Andre will further add to the winning mentality we are building within our squad,”
Jean Onana on his part signed a four-year contract with Turkish Super Lig side Besiktas last Friday as well. Besiktas paid five million euros (about FCFA 3.2 billion)
Player of French Ligue 1 club Len’s last season, Onana helped the club to make their comeback in the Champions League after more than a decade with a second place finish.
In Besiktas, Jean Onana will play alongside another Cameroonian player, Vincent Aboubakar.
