Cameroon: Teams Intensify Preparations Ahead Of Start Of Elite I, II

Union of Douala v Canon of Yaounde

It was another busy weekend for teams across the country as they prepare for the start of the new football season earmarked for March 12

Fans and supporters were thus thrilled to some beautiful encounters last weekend with plenty of goals on offer in some stadiums around the country.

The entertainment started in Douala with an old-time classic between Union Sportive of Douala and Canon Sportive of Yaounde at the annex of the Douala Reunification Stadium.

The massive crowd that turned out in Douala saw the club from the capital run out 4-1 winners thanks to goals from Bahaza, Ngon A Tiati in the first half and then Eyango Priso and Essama in the second half.

It was the second victory for Canon in three days after they defeated AS IVOV of Dizangue three goals to one in Edea on their way to Douala.

Last Saturday’s match in Douala was equally an opportunity for Canon to mobilize its members and supporters in the economic capital ahead of the start of the new football season. To that effect, the marketing department embarked on an offensive with the sale of the club’s gadgets at reduced prices at the entrance to the stadium.

In Yaounde, a football tournament organized by the Association of Elite Clubs in the Centre, South and East Regions kicked off last Saturday at the CAF Excellence Centre in Mbankomo with Colombe Sportive of the South edging out AS Lausanne one nil in the opening game of the tournament thanks to a goal from Kevin Nzokou. The team from the South Region face Tonnerre Kalara Club today in their second encounter.

In Bamenda, another local derby was on show with PWD and Yong Sports Academy playing a virgin draw before the Abakwa Boys carried the day 5-4 on penalties.
