Traditional rulers of the South West Region under the banner of the South West Chiefs’ Conference (SWECC), have called on all stakeholders to facilitate an effective school resumption on September 2, 2019.
They made the call in a statement on Back-to School having realized the 2016/2017 academic year was disrupted and many schools observed a shutdown in the South West region. They acknowledged that their children have been the main victims of the situation having suffered untold abuses, thereby putting the future of the region in jeopardy.
Considering that children’s education remains the most important aspiration, and fully aware that every other issue could be moderated to give children in the South West Region a chance to pursue their education; the chiefs have pleaded that all school children in the region be allowed to resume classes adding that children should cease from being sacrificial lambs and commence classes effectively.
The chiefs’ have therefore fervently appealed to all Cameroonians, and particularly those in the Diaspora who instituted the school boycott in the South West region, and have since then continued to finance and encourage the ban through their local militias, to unconditionally put a stop to this abuse of basic human rights and allow children pursue their education.
In this regard, chiefs, elite and populationhave been further reminded to organise the cleaning of all school premises in the South West Region in full preparation for school resumption.
